- September 2026 – The commencement of the £54 million Resurfacing, Reconstruction, Recycling, Patching and High Friction Surfacing Framework 2026-2030 for Devon County Council. The framework is divided into multiple lots and includes carriageway resurfacing & reconstruction, high-friction surfacing, road markings and recycling works. Successful suppliers will have the opportunity to support the county’s road improvement programme while advancing more sustainable maintenance practices throughout the 4 year contract.
- September 2026 also marks the start of one of the UK’s most significant highway maintenance opportunities with the launch of the £5 billion National Framework for Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Enabling Works 2026. This contract, managed by Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation and Pagabo Group Limited, features a dedicated Highways Lot and will support a wide range of public sector infrastructure projects across the UK. Successful suppliers will gain access to substantial long-term opportunities to deliver highway, and infrastructure works whilst helping to shape major regional development programmes.
- The £120 million – Interim Highway Services contract for Birmingham City Council commenced in August 2026. The contract includes highway maintenance and associated operational services across the Birmingham highways network, ensuring the continued delivery of critical road maintenance and public safety services. Awarded to Kier Construction Limited, the arrangement will run from August 2026 to July 2028, with an option to extend until April 2029, supporting the city’s longer-term highway infrastructure strategy and helping to maintain essential transport services throughout the interim period.
In addition to recording and publishing active contracts, BDS also monitor future procurement for highways maintenance opportunities, contracts currently out to tender include:
- South Lanarkshire Council has launched a tender for anti-skid surfacing, reflective studs and road markings across its road network, this forms part of its ongoing road safety programme. The contract will run for an initial three years, with an option to extend for a further two years, offering suppliers a valuable long-term opportunity in the Scottish highways sector. Deadline for interested parties is 17 September 2026.
- Cumberland Council is currently seeking suppliers for a Highway Surface Treatment Contract including surface dressing, micro asphalt, high friction surfacing, and associated highway maintenance works across its road network. The contract is valued at ~£15m and will run for 4 years with an option to extend by up to 2 years.
