BDS have just published the 18th annual suite of municipal waste and multi-disciplinary contracts for Great Britain. The reports identify the current status of authority contracts and, as a minimum, include contract information by authority, contract duration (including any extensions) and contractor name.
The suite of Municipal Waste Contracts in Great Britain (2025) is made up of four separate reports which combined include ~1,996 contracts and arrangements for waste collection and disposal authorities across Great Britain. The four municipal waste contractsreports, published by BDS are;
- Household Waste Treatment
- Household Waste Disposal
- Household Residual Waste Collection
- Household Recyclate Collection
The latest reports suggest ~26% of waste authorities in Great Britain have existing household waste contracts that are due for renewal by the end of 2026 (~12% due for renewal by the end of 2025). A higher proportion of contracts, due to end by December 31st 2026 can be identified in Scotland, South East and North West.
The 2025 reports suggest Veolia, SUEZ, FCC, Biffa and Viridor own a total market share of ~30% of all municipal waste contracts. Whilst the five companies account for over a quarter of all contracts identified, over 250 companies are represented. Activities of those identified vary from a single approach to treatment or disposal, to collection-only businesses, and multi-discipline waste-management organisations operating at national, regional or local level.
BDS also produced a suite of Multi-Disciplinary Contracts in Great Britain (2025), these include:
- Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing, Leisure Facility Management (~1100 contracts). ~13% of contracts are due for renewal by the end of 2026 (~2% out of contract by 31st December 2025).
- Highways Maintenance (~320 contracts) ~29% of contracts are due for renewal by the end of 2026 (~10% out of contract by 31st December 2025).
