Bradford Council have granted permission to restart large-scale mineral extraction at Buck Park Quarry, Whalley Lane, Denholme. There is a regional demand for locally sourced aggregate and high-quality walling, roofing and dimension stone and Buck Park Quarry will help contribute to this need.
The planning application, submitted on behalf of Thomas Crompton Quarries Ltd, involves a 14.2-hectare scheme that brings the currently dormant quarry back into use, alongside construction of a new access road and road and junction improvements to Whalley Lane / A629. The quarry contains ~1.04 million tonnes of recoverable sandstone, comprising ~85,000 tonnes of flag rock, ~156,000 tonnes of blockstone and ~799,000 tonnes of aggregate. At the proposed extraction rate, active quarrying is expected to take around eight years, followed by ~12 months of restoration. Material would leave the quarry at ~ 45 loaded HGVs per day.
