BDS provide sector-based Tender and Contract information to clients via an annual contract / tender subscription service. Specifically for highways’, contract activity emerging across Great Britain in the last couple of months include:
- East of England – Hertfordshire County Council has awarded a highways services term maintenance contract to Ringway. The initial seven-year agreement, commenced in October 2025, is valued at over £1 billion over 21 years (including a 14-year extension option). The contract covers the delivery of day-to-day maintenance, street lighting repairs, emergency response, grass cutting and road improvement schemes.
- Yorkshire and The Humber – Bradford City Council has appointed six contracts to deliver highway construction works worth ~£2.6 million over six months from November 2025. Works include minor maintenance works, carriageway patching, surfacing, paving and other minor civil engineering works. The appointed contractors are Chellow Construction, Green Brown Civil Engineering, J&N Feather, Jagger Construction Services, R Buton and Rossco Construction Services.
Future procurement, involving the highways maintenance sector, identified by BDS and referenced within the BDS Tender and Contract Service include;
- East Midlands – Nottingham City Council is considering a procurement in September 2026 for its highways planned carriageway maintenance framework. The ~£25 million contract and expected to run from February 2027 to January 2031.
- Wales – Neath Port Talbot Council intends to publish a tender in June 2026 for the South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA) highways and structures framework. Commencing in April 2027 for three years. The framework is estimated at ~£380 million and includes surfacing and ancillary works.
