Tynedale Roadstone, part of MGL Group, has obtained planning consent from Scottish Borders Council for the installation of a mobile concrete batching plant at their Fulfordlees Sand & Gravel Quarry. The application submitted in March 2025 and approved in November 2025, consented the construction of a modular batching facility within the existing operational area.
The company acquired the Fulfordlees Sand & Gravel site from Kinegar Quarries Limited in May 2024 along with the nearby Glenfin Rock Quarry producing surfacing stone. The quarry has been in operation since 1987 and the current 2009 consent allows sand & gravel extraction for a further 18 years with minerals processed at the site.
The mobile batching plant will produce ready-mixed concrete, initially for the Torness substation renewable project. The plant comprises a central mixer, an aggregate feed system, a cement storage, water and additive dosing and automated controls. The majority of aggregate inputs will be sourced from the quarry, supplemented by limited imported materials, with finished concrete discharged directly into delivery vehicles. Production capacity is estimated to be 100 m³ per hour, operating 07:00–19:00 Monday–Friday and 08:00–12:00 on Saturdays, with no Sunday or Bank Holiday operations except for maintenance.
