The ‘Estimated Outputs of Asphalt Plants in Great Britain 2022’ confirms the asphalt market has gradually recovered after witnessing a sharp fall in outputs in 2020 due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, BDS estimate the asphalt market in Great Britain to be similar to that of 2021; in 2022 BDS estimate the market to be nearly 28 million tonnes, an increase of ~3million tonnes since 2020.
Over 30 asphalt-producing companies are identified in the report operating around 250 asphalt plants between them across Great Britain. In 2022, Aggregate Industries became the leading producer of asphalt in Great Britain. The four top producers of asphalt (Aggregate Industries, Tarmac, Heidelberg Materials (Hanson) and Breedon) jointly account for over 70% of the total asphalt GB market.
