Third Asphalt Plant for Tynedale Roadstone!

  • Post category:Planning

Tynedale Roadstone, part of MGL Group, has secured planning consent in June 2025 for the construction of a new asphalt plant located at Allerton Waste Recovery Park, Harrogate, West Yorkshire. The facility is intended to meet local demand and support highways contracts within the region. The company submitted a pre- application to Harrogate Borough Council in July 2021 and due to the scale and nature of the development, the project was classified as an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) development.

Tynedale Roadstone produces bituminous macadam and asphalt products, supplying asphalt to surfacing and maintenance contractors along with providing their own surfacing services through Rainton Construction (MGL Group subsidiary). The development in Harrogate will be the company’s third asphalt plant, two other asphalt plants are in operation in Newcastle upon Tyne and County Durham.

The recently consented Yorkshire plant, located adjacent to the Allerton Waste Recovery facility, will enable the incorporation of recycled waste plastics and other materials into asphalt production. The plant will be designed to include the capability to recycle reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), helping to increase the sustainability of the asphalt production.
