Suffolk’s mineral reserves receive a boost!

  • Post category:Planning

Brackley Wood Ventures Ltd, a well-established operator with expertise in mineral extraction and site restoration has recently received planning consent for a long-term sand & gravel extraction site in Belstead, Suffolk.

The approved scheme includes on-site processing, concrete batching and phased restoration over 15-year operational period. It will also allow for the extraction, processing and sale of ~3.1 million tonnes of sand and gravel, alongside the recycling of inert materials and production of ready-mixed concrete.

The application, originally submitted in October 2022 and approved in July 2025, has an anticipated extraction rate of ~200,000 tonnes per year, representing a substantial contribution toward Suffolk’s target to supply 9.3 million tonnes of sand and gravel by 2036. While the majority of production is expected to support regional demand, sales of processed materials will also go beyond the Suffolk County.
