Breedon has submitted a planning application to seek for an additional 10 years to work and restore Fron Haul Quarry, located off Denbigh Road near Nannerch in Flintshire. Fron Haul Quarry contains in excess of 700,000 tonnes of permitted land-won sand & gravel that has not yet been extracted. Breedon expects the quarry to produce ~120,000 tonnes per year once extraction recommences, suggesting the remaining reserve would provide ~six years of active production. The existing permission allows up to 220,000 tonnes of aggregate to leave the site annually, although actual production is expected to remain below this maximum.
At the current time, extraction at Fron Haul Quarry had effectively paused however the quarry’s processing plant is currently being used to process sand & gravel transported from Breedon’s nearby Maes Mynan Quarry. Breedon intends to complete the remaining operations at Maes Mynan Quarry before returning to extract the permitted reserves at Fron Haul Quarry. The planning application for Fron Haul Quarry is seeking an extraction extension until December 2032 and site restoration to be completed by December 2034.
