Laird Aggregates Secures Planning Consent for Concrete Batching Plant

  • Post category:Planning

Laird Aggregates have secured planning consent for the construction of a ready-mix concrete batching plant at Lochhead Sand & Gravel Pit. The planning application was submitted in November 2025 and approved January 2026 by Angus Council.

The consent allows for the development of a ready-mix concrete facility comprising a batching plant, three cement silos, five in-line hoppers and a conveyor system. The plant is designed to produce ready-mix concrete using sand & gravel produced through Laird Aggregates’ existing quarrying and processing operations.

The batching plant will stand at ~12m, the cement silos at ~18.7m and the in-line hoppers at ~9.8m, providing storage and controlled feed of raw materials into the mixing process. The enclosed conveyor and dedicated storage tanks for admixtures and water will support concrete mix tailored to customer and project requirements.

Once operational, the plant is expected to produce ~ 30,000m³ of concrete per annum, equivalent to ~110m³ per day. This capacity is intended to meet demand from local construction, infrastructure and agricultural projects, with the on-site batching capability reducing reliance on imported ready-mix concrete from other plants. Operating hours for the batching plant will be 06:00–19:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00–13:00 on Saturdays, with no working on Sundays.
