The ‘Estimated Outputs (2024) of Aggregate Sites in Great Britain’ report has now been published and joins the BDS suite of Outputs reports, providing output estimates and market share information for all asphalt, aggregates, RMX sites in Great Britain. Data is estimated at individual plant level and summarised at county, regional and national levels including market shares by company.
- The current report estimates annual outputs of pits, quarries and marine wharves in Great Britain to be in excess of 165 million tonnes. Crushed Rock contributed a share of ~ 70% with the remainder divided between land-won Sand & Gravel and Marine won Sand & Gravel. Annual volumes recorded for 2024 marks a third decline year on year in total aggregate production.
- The aggregates sector in Great Britain is dominated by five major companies, Breedon, CEMEX, Heidelberg Materials, Holcim UK and Tarmac. In 2024 jointly they account for over 70% of the total aggregates market in Great Britain with the largest aggregate producer identified as Tarmac.
