10 years further Sand & Gravel extraction at Armthorpe Quarry

  • Post category:Planning

Planning consent has been secured for Yorkshire Aggregates to continue extracting sand & gravel at Armthorpe Quarry, South Yorkshire. The application, submitted in December 2024 and approved in December 2025, identifies site operations for a further 10 years to March 2035.

The consented time extension was requested as the existing planning consent required operations to cease by March 2025. An examination of the land confirmed that a further 10-year period will allow the consented sand & gravel to be fully extracted with remaining reserves estimated at around 100,000m³.

Armthorpe Quarry is divided into several operational areas; the North includes the extraction and processing land, the central area includes settlement lagoons, mineral stock and storage is found towards the east and the western area of the site includes an active extraction area in addition to office buildings. The surrounding site has already been restored and returned to agricultural use. The quarry has been operating for an extensive period, supplying sand & gravel alongside recycled aggregates, decorative gravels and topsoil to the Yorkshire, Humberside and North Midlands markets.

Operations at the site, including sand extraction, recycling of construction and demolition waste, topsoil production and the stocking and sale of primary and recycled materials will continue in line with the consented planning application and operating hours will remain unchanged.
