In June 2026, Holcim UK has received approval for two ready-mixed concrete batching plants at Hunterston PARC, North Ayrshire, a former coal terminal. After construction, anticipated to take two years, each plant will include an aggregate hopper, four cement silos and storage bays. Aggregates will be delivered to Hunterston PARC by sea and moved internally, whilst cement, GGBS and admixtures will arrive by road. The operation is also expected to receive nine tanker deliveries each day, with ~5 mixer trucks working across the wider Hunterston PARC site.
Welton Aggregates also secured a retrospective planning permission in June 2026 for the replacement of a ready-mixed concrete batching plant at Welton Quarry, Lincolnshire. The consent allows for the older approved RMX facility, that had reached the end of its operational life to be removed and a new plant to be installed in its place. This replacement ensures the continuation of concrete production for Welton Aggregates in addition to continuing chalk extraction, recycled aggregate production and construction-waste processing operations. The RMX plant has the ability to produce ~250 tonnes of ready-mixed concrete a day, equivalent to ~70,000 tonnes a year. Powdered cement will be delivered to the site by tanker and transferred into three silos, while concrete residues will be processed through an on-site wash plant and recycled as granular pipe-bedding material.
