Slinter Mining Company Ltd, suppliers of ready-mixed concrete, concrete products and aggregates in the East Midlands area has recently received planning consent for the extension and restoration of Slinter Top Quarry in Cromford, Derbyshire.
The proposed southwest extension will cover 2.6 hectares and will release approximately 1.43 million tonnes of limestone and other industry minerals, including fluorspar, barytes and calcite, utilised for the production of construction materials. Extraction at Slinter Top Quarry will use a combination of blasting and hydraulic excavators. Minerals will be selectively removed, whilst blast rock will be transported using dump trucks to an on-site mobile processing plant.
Slinter Top Quarry has been operational for over 50 years, however was expected to end by 2018 due to depleted reserves. The planning approval will now extend mineral extraction by 14 years, with operations continuing until 2031, followed by an additional two years for site restoration. The approved extension will help ensure a continuing supply of limestone into the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire region.
