Planning Consent Granted for Blackhillock Quarry Extension

  • Post category:Planning

Planning consent has been approved for Pat Munro (Alness) Ltd for a lateral extension to Blackhillock Quarry, in Moray, Scotland. The application submitted (July 2025) and consented in February 2026 will release additional crushed rock hardstone reserves.

The proposal extends the working area of the quarry to the south in excess of 1.98 hectares, increasing the total site area to ~10.33 hectares. The extension is expected to release circa 750,000 tonnes of saleable aggregates based on recent extraction rates of ~50,000 tonnes per annum.

In parallel with the extension, conditions 2 and 11 of planning permission will be varied to formally extend the operational life of the existing consented site from February 2029 to October 2040, allowing the quarry to remain operational for a further 15 years. The proposals also include continued working within the existing quarry to provide access, facilitate overburden placement for landscaping, and leave a final landform that supports future restoration, alongside ongoing processing, stockpiling and despatch of quarry products.

Pat Munro (Alness) Ltd is one of the largest privately owned infrastructure companies in the north of Scotland, founded in 1945, and based in Alness in the Highlands. Operating hours for the site will continue as at present, between 07:00 and 19:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays, with no Sunday working.
