The anaerobic digestion market is one of the fastest growing sectors of the waste industry. The number of operational plants has grown significantly in recent years and further schemes are currently progressing through the planning process. All planning applications and decisions for schemes across the waste industry are monitored by BDS on a daily basis and entered in our Waste Planning Portal.  (The Planning Service is available to companies on a subscription service.)

Using the portal as the data source for the report, BDS has undertaken a review of planning schemes for anaerobic digestion plants currently with planning consent to identify those that are still to be developed. These include schemes with no development, financial or technology partner and present an opportunity for service and equipment suppliers to develop their business. For waste companies, it offers the potential to develop destinations for feedstocks and identifies possible acquisition targets.

Details provide for each scheme include: –

  • Description of the scheme
  • Applicant name and site address
  • Agent details including named contact, email address and telephone number
  • Tonnage throughput capacity
  • Output capacity (KWe) and output type

The report was published in April 2016. At the same time a report identifying over 310 anaerobic digestion plants currently operating or under construction was also published.
