Background

BDS monitors planning applications submitted and decisions issued across a number of sectors in the leisure industry. These cover developments for the following types of facilities: –

  • Golf courses
  • Sports pitches
  • Multi use games areas
  • Swimming pools

Access to information is provided in two ways. Firstly, an online portal provides details of all schemes along with the ability to search, filter and download information into Excel for further analysis. Secondly, a monthly report detailing the most recent planning activity is produced in PDF and Excel. The PDF format is useful as a published document for distribution and ease of reference. The Excel report allows for further analysis or importing into other applications. Access to historical data and reports can also be made available.

In addition, the online portal provides an alerts facility which automatically updates you, by email, to key events. An email can be triggered by the addition of a new scheme that matches your own criteria. In addition, existing applications can be tracked and an email generated when a decision is issued.

Information is obtained from personal and telephone contact with County Councils and local authorities, and monitoring web sites.

As a further service BDS monitors the arrangements each local authority has for the management of its sports and leisure facilities. The report includes details of the contract period (start/end/duration – including extension options), current contractor, value of contract (where known) and details of the facilities and services included.
