BDS has recently published the Estimated Outputs of Asphalt Plants in Great Britain’ report to provide information on the asphalt industry in Great Britain. The report, published in October 2021, provides historical trends and estimates of outputs and market shares by individual asphalt plant and by company for Great Britain in 2020.

In 2020, BDS estimate the asphalt market in Great Britain to be ~25 million tonnes. Figures have decreased in 2020 since the market experienced a plateau in 2018 and 2019 however this is expected due to the extensive working limitations and government restrictions implemented to tackle the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.

The latest report confirmed Tarmac as the largest producer of asphalt in Great Britain. In 2020 the GB asphalt market was dominated by four producers, Tarmac, Aggregate Industries, Hanson and Breedon, who between them accounted for 77% of the total asphalt market.
