Database of landfill sites

BDS has developed a database covering all known landfill sites operated by waste management companies, and the larger privately owned inert sites. The database is updated weekly with quarterly updates sent to subscribers.

The information includes:

Name of landfill site
Name of operator
Address of site, including post code
County
Region
Status now (open or closed)
2 Year status (open or closed)

X and Y co-ordinates
Planning authority
Environment Agency area
Waste inputs - last three years
Estimated void space and life
Recent planning developments
Other developments

The database allows the sorting of schemes so that all landfill sites of a particular company can be listed together, all sites in a county or region etc. Around 650 landfill sites are included.

As well as providing information on estimated waste inputs, void space and life, the database highlights those sites that are likely to open or close within the next two years. Information has been obtained from public sources, planning applications and interviews with local authorities and the Environment Agency.

The database is available in total and can also be made available by individual regions.
