Housing For a number of years, house builders have been used to building around 200,000 houses a year. Whilst the credit crunch and ensuing recession has affected most sectors, the housing market has been particularly badly affected. Recent levels have fallen to less than 80,000 starts per year although 2011 starts are expected to reach around 125,000. Steady growth back towards historical levels is likely. In view of the potential for recovery, BDS has brought out a new quarterly report from 2009. Its long standing house builder consents report continues to plot the market and active companies in the sector.
