This survey was published at the end of 2003 and has three main sections:

1. An independent forecast for the GB aggregates industry until 2010. This takes into account recent trends and current influences on the market. These include the aggregates levy, construction workloads, the Government's roads programme and alternative sources of aggregates.

2. In the past decade, the quarrying industry has witnessed three major acquisitions. BDS assesses the likely future structure of the industry and how this could affect the existing companies.

3. A total of twelve development opportunities for quarrying companies are identified. These include the identification of areas in the country requiring new local asphalt plants and development of particular aggregates markets. In the report, BDS introduces the concept of Quarry Service Centres to improve aggregates companies' marketing to the small loads sector.
