Aggregates
Around 220 million tonnes of aggregates are extracted in the
UK each year. This comprises marine and land won sand and gravel, and crushed rock. Recycled aggregates from demolition and construction waste have increased in usage in recent years and now represent a further 60 million tonnes.
Much of the industry is supplied by five major companies, which have all been the subject of acquisition since 1995. A number of smaller independent businesses have also been acquired over this period. However, over 200 companies remain in the sector.
BDS has published a number of reports on outputs and reserves of all of these companies in the UK, Ireland and
France. These are used by companies to monitor their market share with their competitors. Potential investors in the sector use the information to assess possible development opportunities. A major European study on aggregates is published every two years. Other one-off reports have covered recycled aggregates and packed products. For equipment suppliers, a list of key quarry purchasing contacts is also available.
Much of our published information is not available elsewhere and is regarded as an independent, authentic analysis of the aggregates industry.
Monthly planning reports monitor planned developments for all companies in this sector.

US are covered.
